Hampi, the second largest world heritage site in the world, is the most celebrated name in Karnataka. Famous for its temple ruins, this heritage town of Karnataka is located at a distance of 352 kms from Bangalore. This village is also an important pilgrim destination having the Virupaksha temple along with many other holy sites. Major tourist attractions of Hampi can be divided into two main parts the Hampi Bazaar Part and the Royal center near Kamalapuram.
Pattadakal is also renowned for its group of monuments. At a distance of 514 kms from Bangalore and just a 22 kms long excursion from the rock cut caves of Badami, Pattadakal is a famous historical town in Karnataka. The temples of Pattadakal saw the Badami Chalukya art in full bloom. The most famous temple in Pattadakal is the Virupaksha temple that was built in 745 AD by Queen Lokamahadev to commemorate her husband's victory (Vikramaditya II) over the Pallavas of Kanchi.
Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary
Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary is the only place where one can spot these Sloth bears, who are the honey-lovers endemic to India. The sanctuary is located in Ballari District. The Sanctuary has a rough terrain and during the visit, tourist can spot animals like jackals, wild boards, mongoose, black-naped hares, leopards etc.
The Tungabhadra Dam is constructed across the Tungabhadra River, a tributary of the Krishna River. The dam is near the town of Hospet in Karnataka. It is a multipurpose dam serving irrigation, electricity generation, flood control, etc. This is a joint project of erstwhile Hyderabad state and erstwhile Madras Presidency when the construction was started; later it became a joint project of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh after its completion in 1953.
The oldest Temple in Karnataka, Kumaraswami Temple is located on south-west corner and is connected to Sandur by Road.The complex houses temples of Parvati and Kumaraswami.
