A must try dish is the Wazwan a multi-course Kashmiri meal, served on a Taraem dish during celebrations like a wedding or a festival. At WelcomHeritage Gurkha Houseboat you can pre-order this heritage dish and savour the aromaric delicacy at its best. A taraem basically comprises of 36 dishes - from rista, rogan josh to kababs, primarily made of lamb. The main course ends with what is known as ‘Gushtaba’, a meatball dish.

Dal Lake
A Shikara ride at Dal Lake is amongst the top favourite things to do in Kashmir. Just 10 km away from WelcomHeritage Gurkha Houseboats you will find yourself at this beautiful lake which spreads upto 18-22 sq. km. We suggest that you venture out for a ride in the evening, when the sky is still blue as you will be able to capture the most serene reflections of the surrounding mountains in the water until the sky turns crimson following the sunset. This timeless experience in the city is worth every dime! This lake is also famous for one of its kind floating market in Asia, this market dates back to the Mughal era when it was known as “Lake of Flowers.” It comes as the second largest wholesale market in the world, after Vietnam’s Mekong Delta.

There is no other better way to experience the local authentic lifestyle of the Kashmiris than from the comfort of a slow shikara ride through this lake. Also, don’t forget to taste the local Kashmiri tea – Kahwah.

Tulip Garden 
Srinagar is home to Asia’s largest Tulip Garden, at a distance of 11 km from the houseboat is the famous Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden. Skiing at Gulmarg

Reaching Gulmarg is an easy task from the Gurkha Houseboats, it will take about two hours of a car-ride to reach the ‘Gulmarg Gandola’ – a cable car circuit which takes you to an incredible height of almost 4,000 metres above the sea-level. Adventurous right! From here the skiing track for about 5 km begins down the hill.
